The Santa Monica College Emeritus College Band will present its fall concert — an eclectic program of classical, musical theater selections and more — at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2 at the Westwood United Methodist Church, 10497 Wilshire Blvd. Admission is free.
The 60-member concert band, part of SMC’s acclaimed Emeritus College for older adults, is under the direction of Wallace Umber.
On the program will be a wide range of numbers, including Rossini’s Barber of Seville Overture, selections from Showboat and Oklahoma, and several marches, including Sousa’s Stars and Stripes Forever. Also on the program will be Universal Judgment, a symphonic poem written in 1878 by Camillo De Nardis, which won first prize in a national band contest in Italy and whose present arrangement, prepared for the famous Goldman Band of New York City, features trumpets from the balcony.
