Santa Monica CityTV and the Miles Memorial Playhouse have won the LA area Emmy for “Outstanding Achievement in Youth Programming.”

The winning show is “Downbeat Showdown #4,” a teen talent competition that aired in March of 2005.

“Downbeat Showdown” was inspired by the popular teen program “Downbeat 720” which happens on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 7:20 p.m. at the Miles Memorial Playhouse at Reed Park.

“Downbeat Showdown #4” was executive produced by Robin Gee of CityTV and Justin Yoffe of the city’s cultural affairs department. Additional Emmys were given to Al Johnson, associate producer of CityTV, and to the show’s host, Joe Hernandez-Kolski. Other city personnel involved with the program are Kenneth Hinegardner, Wolf Bukowski and Miguel Siquieros of CityTV and Christopher Hall of cultural affairs.

The award was given by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences at the Academy’s Leonard H. Goldenson Theater in North Hollywood on Saturday night, Aug. 12, in an awards ceremony hosted by Keith Olbermann of MSNBC.

An edited version of the live show will air on Saturday, Aug. 26 at 9 p.m. on KTLA, channel 5 in Los Angeles.
