Santa Monica police are out in full force this holiday weekend.
Called a “saturation patrol,” the SMPD had an additional nine motorcycle officers patrolling downtown Santa Monica and Main Street on Friday night as part of an ongoing educational effort to curb drunk driving.
SMPD is participating in the “Avoid the 50” program, which is comprised of 50 law enforcement agencies in Los Angeles County who have deployed extra patrol this weekend.
SMPD will continue to have beefed up enforcement throughout the weekend, stopping vehicles for moving traffic violations, said SMPD Sgt. Jay Trisler.
