Volunteers during crisis situations in Malibu recently received national recognition.
The Office of the U.S. Surgeon General has announced that the Malibu Medical Reserve Corps’ registration is complete.
The MMRC is now officially recognized as part of the White House’s USA Freedom Corps initiative and the Department of Homeland Security Corps.
The MMRC provides an organized way for medical, public health and citizen volunteers to offer their skills and expertise during local crisis and throughout the year.
Malibu-based MRC volunteers assist during large scale medical emergencies, natural disasters, or an act of terrorism.
Officials say MMRC is working closely with the city of Malibu to forge a mutually beneficial alliance to protect the lives and well-being of Malibu residents and visitors alike.
The registration allows the MMRC to access federal resources, to use the official MRC logo, participate in National MRC Leadership Conferences, and participate in regional MRC meetings and conferences.
Malibu MRC has received a similar recognition from the State of California and is operating as a part of California MRC coordinated by the California office of Emergency Operations.
