Renowned Los Angeles Times film critic Kenneth Turan will give a free lecture on the impact of film festivals on the worldwide motion picture industry.
“From Sundance to Sarajevo” will be held Friday, March 26 at Santa Monica College at 7 p.m. in the SMC Concert Hall, 1900 Pico Blvd. Seating is a first-come, first-serve basis. The lecture is co-sponsored by the SMC Associates, a private organization that funds speakers and special programs on campus, and the University of California Press Associates — which provides support to the University of California Press.
The lecture’s title comes from Turan’s book of the same name that was recently published by UC Press.
Turan is also a film critic for National Public Radio’s “Morning Edition” and the director of the Los Angeles Times Book Prizes. He has been a staff writer for the Washington Post and TV Guide and the Times’ book review editor.
Turan also teaches film reviewing and non-fiction writing at USC and is on the board of directors of the National Yiddish Book Center.
A graduate of Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania and Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, he is the co-author of “Call Me Anna: The Autobiography of Patty Duke.”
