The Santa Monica Fire Department is offering a day-long course to residents on what do in the event of a disaster.

The course — which is free — is designed to provide citizens with the skills to save themselves, their loved ones, neighbors and co-workers in the event of an emergency, according to a press release.

The course will include training in light search and rescue techniques, shutting off utility connections, rescuer safety, disaster first aid and use of fire extinguishers.

The course will take place on April 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and is open to all adults who live or work in the City of Santa Monica. Pre-registration is highly recommended for those interested in attending.

Call 310-458-2221 to enroll.
