Hospital stays are seldom fun and games, except for some children and teens hospitalized at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center, thanks to a donation from Activision.

The Santa Monica-based developer of interactive entertainment software donated many of its popular titles to the medical center’s pediatrics unit, along with 10 television monitors and game consoles. Activision also made a similar donation to Santa Monica-UCLA’s future partner, Orthopaedic Hospital in downtown Los Angeles.

Activision plans to supplement the donation with new software over time and may upgrade its donation when the new Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center and orthopaedic hospital are completed and ready for occupancy in 2007.

“Our patients have really enjoyed having these games available during their stays,” says Graham Fewtrell, director of women’s and children’s services at Santa Monica-UCLA. “The games help pass the time and can actually be therapeutic for them.”
