As the sun sets over the Santa Monica Pier tonight, movie fans can take in a screening of the classic film “Grease” in an outdoor “drive-in” environment.
“Grease” is the final film in the month-long Tuesday movie screenings hosted by Santa Monica Film Festival and the Santa Monica Pier Restoration Corp.
Over the past three weeks, more than 8,000 people have come to the pier to watch classic films and to support the Cancer Relief Fund, which provides support for those suffering from cancer. Monies raised for the fund are generated from chair rentals, merchandise sales, and the raffles of a Vespa motorscooter and a Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf basket.
The film will begin at 8 p.m. on the pier and is free to the public. Through the sponsorship of DirectTV, there will be “Hopelessly Devoted” karoke performers, a costume contest and a booth for greasing up your hair. The film will be introduced by director Randal Kleiser and various stars from the film will attend the event.
Other movies screened this month were “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,” “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and “Jaws.”
The next Santa Monica drive-in series will be held in December.
