MAIN LIBRARY Has-been actor Troy McClure from “The Simpsons” might say of Harry Shearer: “You may remember him from such films as ‘Dick’ and ‘A Mighty Wind’”

Well, in the case of the chameleon-like Shearer, the film the Santa Monica resident is best known for would probably be the classic heavy metal mockumentary “This is Spinal Tap.”

The satire specialist, also known for his vivid voiceover characterizations on Fox Broadcasting’s mainstay “The Simpsons,” will be appearing at the Santa Monica Public Library on Tuesday, at 7 p.m., along with his “Simpsons” co-star Marcia Wallace for an evening of conversation and laughs.

After launching his show biz career at the ripe young age of 7, Shearer fondly recalls his slew of appearances on the 1950s “Jack Benny Show,” in the days when radio was giving way to the small screen in terms of popularity. He made his film debut in “Abbott and Costello Go to Mars” and later appeared in the pilot episode of the seminal sitcom “Leave It to Beaver” as Eddie Haskell, everybody’s favorite kid next door.
