In response to many families losing jobs and health insurance, the Venice Family Clinic has announced it will chip in for children’s health care.
“So many of my patients have been telling me that job loss is increasing and with it access to health care is lost,” said Dr. Susan Fleischman, the Venice Family Clinic medical director. “The clinic’s response is to extend its pediatric services to families of children on the westside who are living below poverty — $18,396 for a family of four — even if the children have public health insurance like Medical, Healthy Families, Healthy Kids or California Kids.”
The Venice Family Clinic currently provides 5,510 children with medical, mental health, developmental and family support services. Well-child care offers immunizations, preventative care, lead screenings and developmental assessments. Children with chronic conditions such as asthma also are treated, and kids receive dental screenings and dental care referrals by the clinic. The clinic also enrolls children in public health insurance programs.
