More than 70 vendors, selling items ranging in price from $5 to $5,000, will be featured at the first-ever John Wayne Cancer Institute Auxiliary’s Holiday Boutique on Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Westwood’s Broxton Avenue — between LeConte and Weyburn — will become an open-air gift shoppers’ haven that will include everything from jewelry, designer handbags and clothing, to books, candles and toys. Shoppers are encouraged to bring along their holiday gift lists. Two-hour free parking will be available, as will gift wrapping at a nominal charge.
Twenty percent of all monies raised will support the Santa Monica-based John Wayne Cancer Institute, one of the world’s foremost cancer research centers, providing funds for research projects, equipment and fellowships.
The John Wayne Cancer Institute Auxiliary was founded in 1982 when two women who had been treated for breast cancer at the institute pledged to help win the fight against the disease. They asked their friends to join their campaign, and from the original nucleus of 14 women, the auxiliary has grown to more than 800 members. Since its inception, the auxiliary has raised more than $12 million.
