Help is on the way for the homeless. People Assisting the Homeless (PATH) will host Law Day 2004, a one-day conference designed to provide information and counsel on legal rights to the homeless and low-income individuals, on Aug. 21, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at PATH’s Regional Homeless Center, 340 N. Madison Ave.
Co-sponsored by Special Counsel, the Beverly Hills Bar Association and Public Counsel, the event will include educational seminars on topics including accessing public benefits and resolving tickets and warrants with no money or jailtime. Legal professionals and benefits experts also will be available for one-on-one consultations to provide advice, referrals and assistance.
“We want to empower the homeless and low-income people with the knowledge and ability to remove the legal barriers that hinder them from reclaiming their lives,” said Joel John Roberts, executive director for PATH.
PATH, founded in 1984, is a non-profit community organization that seeks to empower homeless people with the tools for self-sufficiency, helping them find work, secure housing and obtain an array of social and health services to reclaim their lives. Its supportive services and transitional housing facilities assist some 17,000 people annually in Southern California. For more information on attending Law Day 2004, call PATH at (323) 644-2209.
