Hooked on phonics

By Daily Press staff

The Delphi Academy of Santa Monica will start its summer session June 28. The session is open to K-6 students and is currently accepting enrollment for its summer camp, which features sports, science, cooking, art, music and a reading program. Delphi just completed its first year, and boasts a reading program for students as young as four.

In the program, Delphi uses a combination of phonics and high volume reading to teach children to decode unfamiliar words and master basic phonetic principles. Children are expected to have read more than 600 books by the end of the third grade.

For more information on the Delphi reading program and the summer session, call Betsy Quinn at (310) 526-2702 at Delphi Academy of Santa Monica at 1610 Broadway.
