The Santa Monica Bay Area’s own Human Relations Council has new leadership. The Santa Monica Bay Area chapter of the Human Relations Council voted in its new board of officers for the 2005-2006 year.

Incorporated in California in 2004, the council prides itself on active involvement in social issues that affect the city. It acts as a liaison between governmental organizations and community groups to improve race relations, community harmony and education. To do that, HRC will hold public forums and “town hall meetings” to start discussing community concerns.

The new Human Relations Council board officers elected to serve 2005 through 2006 include: chair: Shiela Banani, of the Santa Monica Baha’i Assembly; vice-chair: Laurie Newman (office of Sen. Sheila Kuehl); secretary: Iao Katagiri (Rand Corp.); and treasurer: Nat Trives (community activist and former Santa Monica Mayor). ‘The Mystery of Picasso’ to screen at Mt. Olive Church
