Caltrans and Los Angeles officials are set to open the 2.7-mile carpool lane added to the southbound I-405 between Waterford Street (near Sunset Boulevard) and the Santa Monica Freeway (I-10) this Friday. Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has been confirmed to attend the event, to be held at Westwood Park beginning at 10 a.m.
The lane that is to be opened connects to another carpool lane, currently under construction, spanning I-10 to the Marina Freeway (Route 90). When construction is ultimately completed, there will be a continuous lane on southbound I-405 connecting the San Fernando Valley to Orange County.
