By Colin Maduzia Santa Monica
I commend Ping Ho on her well-researched and optimistic commentary about how the city of Santa Monica could take a leadership role in evaluating the health effects of jet fumes on our community. It’s a wonderful notion and makes perfect sense for a city that prides itself on being so “green-conscious.” Unfortunately, it’s wishful thinking.
The reason the city won’t do the right thing is simple — lack of political will. Fear and self-preservation drives all political action. I’m sure the city lawyers have pointed out that nothing but liability can come to the city through such studies.
Better to put it off until someone else is in office. As if that day will ever come.
