Two authors today will relive the life of a famous author who made his life here for decades.

Chris Freeman presents a reading and a talk “Making Fun Out of It: Rethinking The World in the Evening and Isherwood’s ‘Lost Years,’” on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Barnes & Noble, 1201 Third Street Promenade. The program is co-sponsored by the Santa Monica Public Library and Barnes & Noble. The event is free and open to the public.

Co-editor — with James J. Berg — of two anthologies on the life and work of author Christopher Isherwood, Freeman is associate professor of English at Saint John’s University in Minnesota where he teaches literature, film and linguistics. Freeman and Berg’s “The Isherwood Century: Essays on the Life and Work on Christopher Isherwood” was awarded the prestigious “Lambda Literary Award for Gay Studies.”

Freeman’s focus on Isherwood’s 1954 novel, “The World in the Evening,” continues the exploration of the British-American author’s literary production in America during the centennial celebration of Isherwood in 2004. Isherwood lived more than four decades in the Santa Monica Canyon area until his death in 1986.
