The Los Angeles Assemblage Group will celebrate its 10th anniversary at the “Robert’s Art Gallery” at Santa Monica High School through Feb. 26. The opening reception is scheduled today from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Robert’s Art Gallery, 601 Pico Blvd., is the oldest continuously operating art gallery in Los Angeles County — 67 years. The gallery has been dedicated to two purposes throughout its life: To bring art to the community, but also to introduce students to some of the fascinating variation in the art field.
LAAG was founded in 1994 by Annemarie Rawlinson. She invited a few fellow artists to join her monthly meetings, both to improve their artwork and to increase interest in the art of assemblage. The result was the Los Angeles Assemblage Group. The small circle immediately attracted other artists, resulting now in a membership of male and female artists with a broad range of ages and nationalities working in assemblage and three-dimensional collage. All of the artists have exhibited regionally, nationally and internationally either in group or solo shows. The group itself has shown extensively throughout Southern California. While each member’s work is very different in content, all express themselves through collecting and reworking found objects.
