Are we a united country or are we to be segregated by language? (“Speaking the king’s English,” Sept. 12) I am getting tired of feeling like I am a foreigner in my own country. As a member of the ACLU and a union, I think they are wrong. I am always telling service people to speak English. To me, it’s part of the job. Speak your native language at home, not on the job. Not that it is necessarily the best language, but it is the common way of communication in the U.S.
By the way, I say the same thing to my Israeli acquaintances who, although they have been here 30 years or more, still try to speak Hebrew in my presence.
