As the world's largest public funder of biomedical research, the NIH drives breakthroughs that ensure Americans receive world class care. However, that progress is now in jeopardy. The administration is proposing structural changes to how research decisions are made and funded, shifts that threaten U.S. competitiveness, public health, and the future of scientific discovery.
Congress must intervene to stop these changes. Taxpayer dollars should support the most rigorous, promising science, not whatever is politically popular. When political oversight replaces unbiased peer review, patients lose.
