“Know before you Go” is a weekly update on construction projects throughout Santa Monica. Here is a run-down of this week’s construction projects initiated by City Hall Access Center Construction Construction begins at 503 Olympic Blvd. for the new Access Center building. The sidewalk on Olympic Boulevard between Fifth and Seventh streets will be closed to the public, except Samoshel residents. Airport Park and Airport Avenue improvements Site grading, constructing new artificial turf soccer fields, constructing new playground, restrooms and dog park area, and reconstructing a portion of Airport Avenue. On-site detour possible during street reconstruction.
Civic Center parking structure Construction continues on a new 900-space Civic Center Public Parking Structure, located on Fourth Street next to the Public Safety Facility. Construction will require the closure of Avenida Mazatlan and the Fourth Street sidewalk. One lane on southbound Fourth Street is subject to closure while work is occurring.
Euclid Park Project Construction of a new public park. The project scope will consist of site grading and construction of a new play area (with swings and climbing apparatus), a new garden area, two small green lawn areas, three circular-shaped seating areas and a trellis entry. Construction is projected until May 2007. Marine Street utility undergrounding Relocation and undergrounding of electric, phone and cable facilities on Marine Street, between Lincoln Boulevard and Prospect Court. Parking limitations will be posted daily and detours may be announced as necessary. Montana/Wilshire Storm Water Diversion Structures Installation of a Storm Water Diversion debris removal and diversion facility will begin Aug. 7 at Ocean Avenue at Montana Avenue and Wilshire Boulevard. Traffic will narrow to one lane in each direction on Ocean Avenue at Montana Avenue.
Street and parking lot resurfacing Street and Parking Lot Resurfacing (Street Improvement Project) — Street and Park Parking Lot resurfacing, sidewalk, driveway, curb and gutter repairs. Sidewalk, driveway, curb and gutter repairs begin on Broadway, from 20th Street to Cloverfield Boulevard; Broadway, from 15th Street to Lincoln Boulevard; 17th Street, from Olympic Boulevard to Colorado Avenue; 20th Street, from Colorado Avenue to the I-10; Virginia Avenue, from Cloverfield Boulevard to 20th Street; 21st Street, from the I-10 Delaware Avenue; Michigan Avenue, from Cloverfield Boulevard to 17th Street; Delaware Avenue, from 21st Street to 17th Street; 18th Street, from Pico Boulevard to Michigan Avenue; 17th Street, from Michigan Avenue to Delaware Avenue; Michigan Avenue, from 14th Street to 9th Street; 11th Street, from Pico Boulevard to Michigan Avenue; Bay Street, from Euclid Street to 11th Street; Grant Street, from 10th Street to Lincoln Boulevard; Pearl Street, from 14th Street to Euclid Street; Pearl Street, from 11th Street to Lincoln Boulevard.; Hill Street, from 14th Street to Lincoln Boulevard; Oak Street, from 14th Street to Euclid Street; Ashland Avenue, from 17th Street to Lincoln Boulevard; Euclid Street, from Hill Street to Ocean Park Boulevard; Pier Avenue, from 11th Street to Lincoln Boulevard; 14th Street, from Pico Boulevard to Ocean Park Boulevard, 11th Street, from Marine Street to Ocean Park Boulevard; the Airport, from the Lower South area to the Taxiway; the Airport parking lot; Paula Lane repair at Water Line; Michigan Avenue, from 20th Street to 17th Street; Delaware Avenue, from 20th Street to 17th Street; 18th Street, from Pico Boulevard to I-10; 17th Street, from Pico Boulevard to I-10; Michigan Avenue, from Ninth Street to Ninth Place; Michigan Avenue, from 12th Street to 11th Street; 11th Street, from Pico Boulevard to I- 10; Oak Street, from 14th Street to 11th Street; 26th Street, from Santa Monica Boulevard to Olympic Boulevard; Water main replacement Installation of new water main complete with service connections throughout the city. Detours and lane closures may occur, and will be posted at various sites during construction. Yale Street Improvement Project Yale Street, from Wilshire Boulevard to Montana Avenue, will be closed to through traffic from Oct. 19 to Nov. 23. Repairs are scheduled through February 2007.
