The Superior Court of Los Angeles County is inviting residents to apply for the 2027-2028 Civil Grand Jury, which examines county, city and joint-powers agencies. Applications are due Nov. 1, 2026.
The panel reviews the work of government agencies within Los Angeles County to promote transparency and accountability. Jurors receive in-depth training and briefings before conducting reviews that may last weeks or months. No prior jury service or investigative background is required — just a commitment to public service.
Qualified applicants must be U.S. citizens 18 or older, able to read and speak English, and Los Angeles County residents for at least one year.

The court's Juror Services Division coordinates the process. Applicants who complete interviews and are found qualified become finalists. In spring 2027, 23 people will be randomly selected from that group to serve.
Those chosen will be trained to investigate county, city and joint-powers agencies. The one-year term runs July 1, 2027, to June 30, 2028, and concludes with a final report of findings and recommendations.
Past jurors have said their primary motivation was public service and civic duty, and many described the experience as engaging and meaningful.
Civil grand jurors typically devote 30 to 40 hours per week, meeting most days at 222 S. Hill St. in downtown Los Angeles. They receive $80 per day plus mileage reimbursement.
