Martin Lakatos AIA, who for the past nine years has been responsible for managing the major capital improvements at Kaiser Permanente’s Fontana Medical Center, has joined the architectural firm Santa Monica-based Widom Wein Cohen O’Leary Terasawa (WWCOT) as principal, where he will be responsible for expanding the firm’s health care practice, announced principal Adrian O. Cohen, FAIA.

A licensed architect in California, as well as in his native Argentina where he earned his architecture degree from the University of Buenos Aires, Lakatos is a seasoned health care field administrator who developed diverse skills in this area over 15 years at Kaiser Permanente. At Kaiser, Lakatos rose from facilities project architect to assistant to the medical group administrator in charge of facilities, planning and development.

“Having also earned his MBA in 1997, Martin has a rare combination of design talent and strong business acumen and will add greatly to the WWCOT management team,” Cohen said.

During his tenure, Lakatos was responsible for project management and construction delivery on a wide variety of projects for Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc., including the $140 million master plan for their Fontana Medical Center, and the outpatient master plan for their Los Angeles Medical Center that encompassed 250,000 square feet of remodeling projects for the outpatient and cardiac surgery departments, internal medicine, magnetic imaging, neurology, urgent care and emergency services.

Prior to joining Kaiser, Lakatos practiced architecture with several Southern California firms. He is a member of the Medical Group Management Association.
