“Two Rooms,” Lee Blessing’s play about an American woman whose husband is a hostage in Beirut, was written two decades ago during a different Middle East conflict, but the message carries just as much relevance today.
The show tells a love story that is interrupted by world events, capturing the playwright’s view of the effect a human disaster has on everyone.
The play from Triptych Theatre is directed by Jamie Wollrab and stars Dominic Hoffman and Susannah Hall.
Tunisian musician MC Rai will perform live music on stage to reflect the beauty of Middle Eastern culture juxtaposed with the horror of the terrorist theme portrayed on stage.
“Two Rooms” will play Sept. 8-30 at the Powerhouse Theatre, 3116 Second St. with performances Thursday through Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 7 p.m. There will be a special pay-what-you-can preview on Thursday, Sept. 7. Tickets go on sale Aug. 22 and are $27 for adults, $22 for students and seniors. For more information or to buy tickets, contact the Powerhouse Theatre at (310) 396-3680, ext. 7, or go to www.powerhousetheatre.com.
