I was surprised that Nora Sorena Casey’s article, “Legendary stores thrive and survive,” Aug. 16, page 1, failed to include the Casa Escobar on Wilshire Boulevard, which opened in 1965.
My family moved to Santa Monica in 1971 and we have been loyal customers throughout the years. We have developed close relationships with many of the staff and regular customers and have shared every kind of occasion there including sports events, birthdays and even my mother’s wake.
The original owner, Carlos “Choppo” Escobar, created a special environment with wonderful people, great food and, of course, the best margarita in town. That tradition is now proudly carried on by his son Michael. The Casa Escobar is truly unique to Santa Monica in this day and age and should be celebrated in the city’s local paper.
