Does Santa Monica have enough culture? That’s the topic of this weekend’s community workshop. City Hall is preparing a master plan to guide the continued development of the community’s cultural resources. The city of Santa Monica will host a community meeting on Saturday, June 24, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to gather public input what’s been titled “Creative Capital.” The goal of the planning process is to forge a common vision for the future of arts and culture in Santa Monica. The plan will identify community priorities and articulate the policies and strategies that will be required to achieve those priorities and make Santa Monica an even better environment for creativity in all forms.
Santa Monica has been a destination and a haven for creative individuals since its inception. Santa Monica’s cultural community is central to the city’s identity, contributing to the economy, the environment and the overall quality of life for residents. The community meeting is an effort to preserve and strengthen that identity.
The planning process will offer many different opportunities for participation in addition to Saturday’s community meeting, including a broad array of workshops, community meetings and a phone survey. The city also will be developing an on-line directory of the many creative people who live and work in Santa Monica.
