This is not a local gig, but it sure is worth the drive.

I have to say that Mamma Mia! is the best musical I have been to in, well — 28 years. Incidentally, I am 28. This show literally had the audience dancing in the aisles. There’s music, dancing, laughs and some intrigue. We find a young woman about to be married, desperate to know who her father is. Sophie has it narrowed down to three lucky gents who spent time with her funky, vivacious mom some 20 years ago. So she does what any lovesick young girl would do — she invites them to her Greek Island home for the wedding, under the pretense that the invitations were sent by her mother, Donna. However, she neglects to inform her dear mother that the men were even invited. High comedy ensues with delicious musical numbers thrown in. Let’s face it, the plot is pretty predictable but I guarantee you that you won’t care. If you ever enjoyed the music of ABBA, even if you never did, the show is pure entertainment. I never wanted it to end. The vocals are dead on, the characters well cast. Mamma Mia! is playing at the Pantages Theater through June 12. Tickets can be purchased by calling Ticketmaster at (213) 365- 3500) and are priced between $27 and $82. For group tickets, contact the Pantages box office.
