The Santa Monica Playhouse will present six performances of “The Friendship” from Wednesday, Aug. 29, through Saturday, Sept. 1, at 7:30 p.m., and matinee performances Saturday and Sunday, Sept 1-2, at 2 p.m. The musical, written by Evelyn Rudie, is about four groups of finalists onboard the U.S.S. Friendship racing to win the “National Devil’s-Food- Cake-Mix Devil’s Island Treasure Hunt.” But a crime is committed at sea, and the cast will enlist the help of the audience to decipher clues and solve puzzles. The ending changes nightly, to the surprise of everyone, including the actors. Tickets are $20 for evening shows and $17.50 for matinees.
