Continuing to spotlight the works of its faculty, Santa Monica College will present an exhibit of mixed media installations of Gian-Martin Joller and Emiko Miyano May 19- June 3.

The show will be held in the SMC Photography Gallery, located on the second floor of Drescher Hall, 1900 Pico Blvd. The opening reception is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, May 19.

Aside from being adjunct art professors at SMC, the two also are alumni of the college. Joller went on to get bachelor’s and master’s of fine arts degrees from California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, while Miyano received an undergraduate degree from UCLA and a master’s of fine arts from Claremont Graduate University. Both artists have had their work exhibited throughout Southern California.

“My pieces are metaphorical objects culled from contemporary life,” Joller says in his artist’s statement. “Through the use of an object I create a new meaning.”

“The relationship between subject and object is layered and complex,” Miyano said. “My work is a place where psychological reality/subjectivity and tangible reality/objectivity clash, but in a very quiet way.”

The Joller-Miyano exhibit is the latest in a series of shows this year that have spotlighted the work of adjunct art professors at the college.

Gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
