No movie about the Iraq war or modern terrorism as a whole has been a bona-fide hit or critical success. “The Kingdom” failed to impress critics, “Rendition” as I mentioned last week was schlock and “In The Valley of Elah” was well-received but who even remembers that it came out just two months ago? The latest film to cover some aspect of our modern terrorism/Neo-Con agenda is “Lions for Lambs.” Directed by Robert Redford and starring himself, Tom Cruise and Meryl Streep, this film should clunk out just the same. It looks like a filmed position-paper, overly talky and not based in reality (i.e. graduate students joining the military … isn’t that what our criminals and drop-outs are for, right Senator Kerry). Though I am sure the film has its moments, going head-to-head with “Gangster” and “Claus” is no way to guarantee success. A three-hour anti-war movie playing from Wauwatosa to El Paso will definitely lose out. Most people in our country would rather watch “Paint Drying: The Movie” than be uncomfortable questioning our nation’s agenda.
