I very much enjoyed That Rutherford Guy’s column on the transforming power of Beatles music (“The revolution that changed us forever,” page 5, Aug. 25). John Whitehead writes passionately that “Revolution” and other songs still affect the world “because they effected a revolution of spirit and mind.”
Right on. Surely in Santa Monica, one Beatles song comes to mind that we all hope leads to spiritual change. Part of it goes: “Standing by a parking meter, When I caught a glimpse of Rita, Filling in a ticket in her little white book. In a cap she looked much older, And the bag across her shoulder Made her look a little like a military man. Oh, lovely Rita meter maid, Where would I be without you ….”
