A new park is coming to a Santa Monica neighborhood, but what to call it remains uncertain.
That’s why City Hall is asking residents to submit suggestions for the small neighborhood park planned in the 1500 block of Euclid Street — between Colorado Avenue and Broadway — by April 26.
Designed by the team of Rios Clementi Hale Studios and artist Abbie Baron, the 15,000-square-foot park is the culmination of a design process that included several meetings between city staff and residents. Construction is expected to begin by summer 2006 with an opening in Spring 2007.
To submit suggested names for the new park, use the on-line form (www.smgov.net/communication/cityforms/new_park_name.htm) or e-mail ideas directly to Suggestions also may be mailed to the community and cultural services department, 1685 Main St., room 210, Santa Monica, CA., 90401; fax to (310) 576-1539, or made in person to the recreation and parks commission at its April 26 meeting, when all the suggested names will be presented. A recommendation to the City Council will be formulated by the commission. The City Council is expected to finalize the park’s name at one of its May or June 2006 meetings. In July 2002, the City Council established a policy for the naming of city-owned land, buildings, and facilities.
The recreation and parks commission meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Ken Edwards Center, 1427 Fourth St. in Santa Monica. The center is served by Big Blue Bus lines 1-5, and 7-10, and is wheelchair accessible. ’Tis the season for politics
