A new art exhibit at Walt Disney Concert Hall seeks to spread the word about works from fellowship recipients.

“Contemporaries,” a new exhibit at the Redcat Gallery, will showcase the work of selected artists who have received fellowships through the California Community Foundation’s Visual Arts Initiative over the last five years.

Curated by Claudine Ise of the UCLA Hammer Museum, the show includes works by Jim Isermann, Michael McMillen, Mark Licari, Lynn Aldrich, Monica Majoli and others.

The CCFVAI was created, said officials, to support the work of Los Angeles-area artists and foster a greater understanding of the many cultures and communities that coexist in the LA area. Officials also said the foundation views art as an important vehicle for building one community out of many — transcending social, political and economic barriers in ways words cannot. Since 1999, the 88-year-old foundation has awarded $2.8 million to artists through the initiative.

“Contemporaries” will be displayed from Jan. 8 through 18 and will be open Tuesday through Sunday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. The Walt Disney Concert Hall is located at 631 W. Second St. in downtown LA. For more information, call (213) 237-2800. Profiles about featured artists will be available in the “Contemporaries” catalogue, which will be available online and by request in January.
