Five gasoline/electric hybrid buses could soon join the Big Blue Bus fleet.
The council will be asked to approve a $4 million contract to Creative Bus Sales to provide five transit coaches and spare parts. The vehicles will replace several existing outdated Mini Blue Buses, which serve the neighborhoods and business districts.
Included in the consent agenda is also a $176,000 contract with Harley Ellis Devereaux to design the interior of Big Blue Bus’ operations building on the 1600 block of Seventh Street. The redesign will include new cubicle and desk configurations, improved bathroom amenities and break area for bus drivers.
“Sustainable materials will be used as much as possible in all changes to the building and ergonomics will also be an important part of the process,” the staff report states.
