Dr. James V. Luck, Jr., president and CEO, as well as the medical director of Orthopedic Hospital, has signed a one-ton steel beam adorned with an American flag during a ceremony for the new Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center and Orthopedic Hospital.
The new 266-bed hospital will replace all but the Merle Norman Pavilion on Santa Monica-UCLA’s existing campus on 15th and 16th streets between Wilshire Boulevard and Arizona Avenue.
Under an alliance with UCLA Healthcare, Orthopedic Hospital’s inpatient services will relocate from downtown Los Angeles when the new hospital is completed in 2006.
Orthopedic Hospital’s outpatient services, including occupational medicine and pediatric care, will continue to remain at the current downtown campus.
For more than 90 years, Orthopedic Hospital has provided medical treatment for children with crippling disorders — regardless of their families’ ability to pay, and no child in need has ever been turned away, according to officials.
