Santa Monica police and Santa Monica College police have found no suspect and no evidence of a firearm after responding to a report of a possibly armed individual near the college campus, authorities said.
Officers responded at about 4:30 p.m. Aug. 29 to a report of an individual possibly armed with a handgun near the 14th Street side of the campus. As a precaution, they established a perimeter and conducted a coordinated search of the campus and surrounding area.
Officers did not locate the reported individual or confirm the presence of a firearm, and the report remained unverified. Investigators reviewed available video footage and found no evidence corroborating the initial account that someone was armed.
Based on the investigation, police said no credible threat to the campus had been identified. A significant police presence would remain in the area out of an abundance of caution.
