Saturdays should be spent playing the park, but this Saturday, it could be spent planning one.

The city of Santa Monica’s Community and Cultural Services Department will host a community design workshop on Saturday, Oct. 23 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. to encourage public input on the design of a small park planned on Euclid Avenue between Colorado Avenue and Broadway.

The design team of Rios Clemente Hale Studios and artist Abbie Morganstein will be on hand to present various design options, potential park features, and to hear from the neighborhood and community on preferences for amenities such as shade, seating, children’s playground equipment, security features, and landscape planning.

The park project has been in the works since City Hall purchased the site in 1998, as part of a combined parks and housing development. The new park is part of the city’s parks and recreation master plan, a 20-year plan for more than $142 million worth of improvements to Santa Monica’s parks, open spaces and community facilities. Partial funding for the project is coming from the Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District.

Euclid Park site is served by Big Blue Bus Lines 1, 5, and 10 and is wheelchair accessible. For disability-related accommodation requests, or for more information, call (310) 458-8310.
