A transient was arrested on Sunday for attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed another transient in Palisades Park, police said.

Santa Monica police arrested Mark Wayne Ford, 37, about three hours after he allegedly stabbed a man in the 700 block of Palisades Park, near Montana Avenue. The victim is listed in critical condition at a local hospital.

At about 4:30 a.m., police responded to a call from a citizen who discovered the unconscious victim suffering from numerous puncture wounds. The witness also observed a man walking away from the area and provided the police with a physical description of a possible suspect.

At about 7:45 a.m., Santa Monica officers patrolling the area in the 1700 block of Main Street located a man matching the description.

During the course of the investigation, officers discovered that Ford might have been responsible for the assault. Ford was arrested and later booked for attempted murder. Ford’s bail is currently set at $1 million.

Anyone with information regarding the assault is encouraged to contact the Robbery/Homicide Unit of the Santa Monica Police Department at (310) 458-8451.
