All the ice cream you can eat?

That’s the promise of the Santa Monica Oceanaires Barbershop Chorus at their annual old-fashioned Ice Cream Social, to be held Aug. 28 at the First United Methodist Church in Santa Monica, 1008 11th St., two blocks north of Wilshire Boulevard.

Doors to the two-hour session of songs and sundaes open at 6:30 p.m.

Under the direction of Bob Heron, the Oceanaires will perform a variety of favorite American tunes, along with showcasing some of the group’s quartets.

“We guarantee you’ll leave hummin’ and happy,” said Bruce Schroffel, the group’s resident magician who always has a few tricks up his sleeve to augment the evening of song and fun.

Admission is $8 for kids and seniors, and $10 for adults. Tickets can be purchased at the door, but reservations are recommended because the event sells out every year. Advance reservations are recommended to speed your way to the front of the ice cream sundae line. Tickets will be held at the will call table. For further information and advanced ticket sales, contact Marty Mitnick (310) 472-1382, or reserve online at www.oceanaires.org.

The Santa Monica Oceanaires Barber Shop Chorus is a registered chapter of the national Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America, Inc., the world’s largest male singing society.
