MAIN STREET Getting around town just got a whole lot easier for tourists thanks to the Santa Monica Convention & Visitors Bureau, which announced the arrival of the 2008 Official Santa Monica Visitors Map.

The new map was developed by the bureau and Striker Media Group as a companion piece to the 2008 Official Visitors Guide for tourists to navigate their way around Santa Monica.

“Part of branding Santa Monica as the ‘best way to discover L.A.’is to help tourists in the most efficient and sensible way possible,” said SMCVB President and CEO Misti Kerns. “Our responsibility at SMCVB is to have up-to-date, informative materials on hand like the 2008 Official Visitors Map, which assists tourists in experiencing L.A. through its most impressive portal, Santa Monica.”

The new map features options for getting around Santa Monica including the Big Blue Bus, which brings attention to its commitment to fuel efficiency with natural gas powered buses. If visitors want the convenience of a cab, a toll free number is found at the bottom of the map for reservations.

This foldout map fits into a jacket pocket, day bag, or purse and divides information evenly on both sides. The listing of Santa Monica’s hotels, motels and lodgings is easy to locate with resort logos featured in fact bubbles directly above their location on the map. Each of the Santa Monica shopping districts is also highlighted along the borders of the map, making it effortless and comfortable to read and refer to again and again, said Kerns.

Local businesses have the opportunity to market themselves to Santa Monica visitors with advertisements and expanded listings in the special district sections. The alternate side of the city map breaks down all the advertisers’ contact information along with a brief description, as well as, new additions to the city’s growing commerce family.

“This print of the 2008 Santa Monica Official Visitors map is the best and most pleasing to look at of any to date,” said Lyndell Gooch, publisher of Striker. “The logos distributed throughout the grid of Santa Monica highlight the maps ultimate purpose of being functional.”

Copies of the Official Santa Monica Visitors Map are available at all Santa Monica visitor service locations and can be mailed upon request by calling (310) 393- 7593, or downloaded from the Web site.
