Mr. Musichead Rock Art Gallery, VH1 and Filter Magazine present Steve Joester’s rock photography exhibit debuting at the gallery’s grand re-opening on Saturday, May 19.
Joester’s mixed-media approach taps into the energy of the live on-stage performances he captured nearly 30 years ago. Exhibiting the photographs in a new context, he uses varied materials, such as nail polish and pieces of burlap combined with gold leaf paint to capture the style and energy of each rock artist.
Joester has created album sleeves and posters for musicians including Bob Marley, Ginger Baker and Be Bop Deluxe. In November of 2005 and 2006, he exhibited his work in a private show at the former Andy Warhol Factory in New York.
The opening reception will take place on Saturday, May 10 from 7 p.m. — 10 p.m. The exhibit is available through June 10 and regular exhibit hours are Monday — Thursday from 11 a.m. — 6 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. — 9 p.m. The Mr. Musichead Rock Art Gallery is located at 7511 W. Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood. For more information call (323) 876-0042.
