Get your running shoes on — it’s time for the inaugural Saint John’s Santa Monica 5000. The scenic 5K and 10K race will begin at the Santa Monica Pier and end with a post-event party at the pier on Oct. 22.

The race starts just south of the pier at Ocean Park and Barnard Way, running along Main Street and Ocean Avenue, giving runners views of the Pacific Ocean. The Santa Monica 10,000 continues to San Vicente and east to Lincoln boulevards, then heads south to the pier. The courses both finish at the pier.

The male and female winner of the 5K race will each win $1,000. Top Santa Monica finishers will receive time bonuses and incentives. In total, the race will feature $5,000 in prize money.

Maps of the course and complete prize money structure are available at www.santa-monica5000.com.

“The Santa Monica 5000 is a great community that will feature some of the top runners from throughout the southland,” said event director Brennan Lindner.

The Saint John’s Santa Monica 5000 is managed and promoted by Generic Events, whose mission is to build community and provide athletic challenges for all ranges of physical ability.

Funds from the event will benefit Saint John’s Health Center as it builds its replacement hospital, which includes a new emergency department. The 24-hour emergency department has 30,000 patient visits each year. The department also features a “fast track” program, which provides care for life’s minor bumps and bruises.

Saint John’s Health Center provides care to families from over 41 zip codes in Santa Monica and throughout greater LA.
