In efforts to look out for pedestrians, City Hall is expected to approve tonight newly enhanced crosswalks for Main Street at Vincente Terrace and in front of City Hall.
Following an evaluation of the pedestrian crossing conditions at the locations, a marked crosswalk was recommended across Main Street at Vincente Terrace in the long section between Pico Boulevard and the crosswalk in front of City Hall.
A workshop with Civic Center area employees and employers was held in February to seek suggestions about the pedestrian crossing issues. Some of the recommendations from the workshop will be implemented in the new projects, including refuge islands where pedestrians can wait safely for the direction of traffic to clear outside of City Hall and “Ped Xing” pavement markings added in advance of the crosswalks at Main Street.
It is estimated that it will cost $40,000 to implement these temporary measures and $3,000 to maintain them.
