Santa Monica becoming Rodeo Drive

Published:

By M. Clarks Santa Monica

I am an 84-year-old woman who was born in Santa Monica and still resides here. I love my city, but my one objection is shopping. There are many seniors and low income families living here, and yet, there are no inexpensive stores to buy clothes at a reasonable price. We have never been a “Beverly Hills” city, but now all our stores on Montana, the mall, the Promenade and Main Street are the above-expensive, Rodeo-type merchandise. So where do we go? Mervins in Westchester? Ross in Venice?

Think of the income and employment a reasonable store would bring. Why can’t we have a Kohls, Mervins, or K-mart in our area? We have new parks going up all over town and get nothing for the lower income people who support our town.

I’ve written the mayor, councilmembers, etc., and never a reply.
