The Santa Monica Democratic Club has endorsed Brian Goldsmith for state Senate District 24, adding the largest Democratic club in the district to his coalition.
Goldsmith won nearly 60% of the endorsement vote, which followed a head-to-head candidate debate. During the debate, he emphasized common-sense solutions to California's challenges, including the cost of living, homelessness and what he described as the Trump administration's ongoing attacks on the state.
The club is the latest Democratic organization to back Goldsmith, following the Heart of LA Democratic Club, San Fernando Valley Democratic Council, Blue Wave Democratic Club and Culver City Democrats United.
"Santa Monica needs a State Senator who understands this community, knows how to work with all stakeholders to get things done, and will fight hard for the things we care about," said Jon Katz, president of the Santa Monica Democratic Club. "Brian Goldsmith made a compelling case that he is that person."
Goldsmith said he was grateful for the endorsement. "Grassroots Democratic organizations are the heartbeat of our party, and I look forward to working side-by-side with Santa Monica Democrats to win in November," he said.
Running for elected office for the first time, Goldsmith has been endorsed by a range of officials, including former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, retired Sen. Barbara Boxer, Rep. Julia Brownley and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. State Sens. Henry Stern, Josh Becker and Susan Rubio and several Assembly members have also endorsed him.
His support extends to local officials across the district, including Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman, former Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and mayors and council members in cities such as Beverly Hills, Calabasas, El Segundo, Agoura Hills, Redondo Beach and Santa Monica.
Goldsmith has also earned backing from organizations including California EnviroVoters, Everytown for Gun Safety, Giffords, Climate Action California, several law enforcement associations, Teamsters Joint Council 42, ILWU locals, the California Legislative Jewish Caucus and Democrats for Israel Los Angeles. In all, more than 150 leaders and organizations have endorsed him.
Goldsmith is running in the open race to succeed Sen. Ben Allen in 2026.
