Some local Elks recently had a boxers-and-briefs-themed breakfast. The Santa Monica Elks hosted a “Boxers and Briefs Breakfast” last month when participants donated new packages of men’s and women’s clothes to benefit patients at the Veterans Administration Hospital.

Robbie Robinson, the chairman of the Santa Monica Elks Veterans Affairs Committee, said donations of used outer wear are always accepted, but hospital policy is not to accept under garments. There were 30 packages of men’s wear, 10 packages of women’s wear and $500 collected. There is a place that will sell the clothes at wholesale prices.

On Nov. 9, the lodge will host 30 men and 10 women patients for dinner at the Lodge. In addition, each will receive a small gift.

The next project is the Christmas gift boxes for overseas servicemen. This project is spearheaded by the American Legion Post 123, the Santa Monica Elks, the Santa Monica Elks Emblem Club, the Jack Showers Foundation and the community. Last year, more than 400 packages were sent from Santa Monica and more than 6,000 from Southern California. For more information, call (310) 645-8989. SM Red Cross offers free flu shots
