The Santa Monica Fire Department is offering Disaster Assistance Response Team training to the Santa Monica community.
The one-day course is designed to provide citizens with the skills to save themselves, their loved ones, neighbors or co-workers in the event of an emergency. Because emergency preparedness is such an important issue in the event of a disaster, the Santa Monica Fire Department-sponsored course is free.
The training will be offered on Feb. 22, and will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The course includes hands-on training in light search and rescue techniques, shutting off utility connections, rescuer safety, and disaster first aid.
Participants also will practice putting out fires with extinguishers. The training is open to all adults who live or work in the city of Santa Monica. To enroll in the DART program, call (310) 458-2221.
