Matt Millen’s letter (SMDP, Oct. 13, page 4) misquoted me as saying that the city intentionally segregates “minority” residents in the Pico neighborhood. In fact, lower-income people of all ethnicities are facing serious displacement from the Pico neighborhood due to rising home prices. A loss of culture and history is imminent unless we act progressively to protect the diversity that makes our city a vibrant community. We need more affordable housing throughout the city to counteract market forces that force low-income families out.
