The Santa Monica Police Activities League raised more than $50,000 for local youth programs at its annual Charity Poker Tournament on Oct. 17 at the Santa Monica Moose Lodge.
The fundraiser drew 90 participants for an evening of poker, dinner and fundraising activities supporting PAL's educational, recreational, fitness and leadership programs for youth ages 6 to 17. Moe Ansari won the tournament title.
The event was emceed by Clipper Darrell, the well-known Los Angeles Clippers superfan and community personality.
"We are incredibly grateful to everyone who came out to support our annual Charity Poker Tournament and helped us raise more than $50,000 for Santa Monica youth," said Eula Fritz, director of the Santa Monica Police Activities League. "The generosity of our participants, sponsors and community supporters makes it possible for PAL to continue providing meaningful programs and opportunities that enrich the lives of young people. Everyone who participated helped make this year's tournament a winning hand for our youth."
PAL's mission is to build positive relationships between Santa Monica youth and law enforcement through educational, recreational and enrichment activities.
Proceeds from the tournament will support PAL's free after-school programs and activities, which give Santa Monica youth opportunities to learn, grow, develop leadership skills and build lasting relationships in a safe and supportive environment.
