SANTA MONICA SMFD encourages a safe and sane Fourth of July

Published:

By REAGAN WHEELER

As Fourth of July nears, the Santa Monica Fire Department reminds everyone that all types of fireworks are illegal in the City of Santa Monica. The dangers of fireworks are serious, including permanent scarring as well as loss of hearing and vision.

“Safe and sane fireworks don’t exist,” according to Dr. John Hall of the National Fire Protection Association. Fireworks displays conducted by trained professionals are the safest way to celebrate the holiday according to experts. Santa Monicans can enjoy a safe display on Saturday, June 30 at Santa Monica College’s “Celebrate America” festival.

Gates open at 5 p.m. with entertainment kicking off at 6 p.m. For more information, call (310) 434-3000.
